Azelion Manuel (b. 1991, Greensboro, NC) is an artist based in Brooklyn, New York. Manuel’s photographic work delves into the representation of black queer bodies, negotiating a spectrum of opacity to explore the interior spaces of black queer consciousness. Their practice considers these spaces as metaphysical, capable of being visualized and photographed, challenging traditional perceptions of black queer individuals.
